With out doubt walking, climbing and hiking in the Lake District is a fantastic experience with some trully outstanding views. Please do take care and a few precautions will ensure that you enjoy your stay and do not need to call for help. However, if you do need help the mountain rescue services will be there to help

To call out a rescue team in an emergency dial 999 and ask for ‘Cumbria Police Mountain Rescue’
Emergency text system
Often in the mountains or in the more remote areas of the Lake District you may not get a good mobile phone signal. Often a weak signal is not enough for voice calls but holding the phone above your head for example may be sufficient to be able to send a SMS text message.
Providing you register your mobile phone number first you can send emergency text messages to 999.
